# Send us a Taíno source / Envíanos una fuente taína

This project is building a source-by-source inventory of historical Taíno words, spellings, meanings, and modern community reconstructions. We welcome additional material, but we do not merge every internet list into the historical lexicon.

Este proyecto está creando un inventario, fuente por fuente, de palabras taínas históricas, grafías, significados y reconstrucciones comunitarias modernas. Agradecemos materiales adicionales, pero no mezclamos automáticamente cualquier lista de internet con el léxico histórico.

## What to send / Qué enviar

- Author, title, edition, year, publisher, archive or stable URL.
- Exact page, folio, document date, and island or community when known.
- The original spelling and enough surrounding text to establish meaning.
- A scan or photograph of the title page and relevant page when legally shareable.
- Whether the form is colonial, remembered in regional speech, reconstructed by comparison, or newly coined by a community.
- Any known permission, license, or access restriction.

## Especially wanted / Buscamos especialmente

- early editions or reliable transcriptions of Colón, Chanca, Las Casas, Oviedo, Pané, and Pedro Mártir;
- archival repartimientos, legal records, maps, plant lists, and unpublished field notes;
- Zayas, Tejera, Hernández Aquino, Álvarez Nazario, Arrom, Taylor, Kouwenberg, Jansen, and Ramirez;
- documented rural Caribbean vocabulary with speaker, place, approximate date, meaning, and example sentence;
- Taíno-led modern language materials whose creators want their particular standard represented and clearly credited.

## Evidence labels

Every submission remains attributed and receives one of four labels:

1. **Historical attestation** — present in an early document.
2. **Scholarly reconstruction** — inferred through linguistic analysis or comparison.
3. **Community usage** — adopted by a named modern Taíno project or community.
4. **New proposal** — a transparent compound, borrowing, or coinage offered for present use.

Conflicting forms are preserved as variants. They are not silently replaced by a single “correct” answer.
